Japanese Isho Kasane Dansu From Tokyo - Meiji Era Origin - Miao Tribe This 19th century Indian carvedThis antique Japanese tansu chest is made in the traditional isho kasane dansu form in 2 parts with 4 drawers and a lock box. It is made from kiri wood (paulownia) and dates to the Meiji period. This tansu has a central theme of melon (mokku). The detailed ironware is all black with incised lockplates depicting a mokku kamon (melon clan symbol). The flat handles are cast in the mokko (melon vine) shape.
