Footnote: The Distinguished Conduct Medal was instituted on December 4, 1854 and was discontinued in 1993, replaced by the Conspicuous Gallantry Cross. It was awarded to other ranks for acts of gallantry in action, the recipient entitled to use the post nominal letters "DCM".
