Instituted by King William I of the Netherlands on 29 September 1815. Of high quality manufacture in Gold, consisting of a ball tipped enameled white Maltese cross, featuring finely stylized cypher "W" (for King William I) in each quadrant, the obverse presents a central etched crowned Imperial Lion with sword in Gold, the reverse centre with an enameled blue medallion and motto Virtus Nobilitat, the badge is
